Bible Journalling

Fall in love with your bible again.

Perfectly combining bible reading, reflection and art; i’ve found bible journalling brings focus and connectivity to God’s word and brings me closer to what He may be saying through it. Soak in the bible and let your creativity flow.

It also helps in finding life application in what i’m reading; how does this apply to me, and how is it going to change me?

Simple Journalling:

  • Using different coloured pens to highlight verses and make notes
  • Brackets to make verses stand out
  • Post it notes

Dates on your reflections, so that you can look back on your thoughts, and see how God is moving in your life.

Storing your journaling supplies – a cute reminder of ‘have you had your bible time yet?’

Notebook or Bible?

Both!

There is so much out there now in terms of resources and stationery for journalling. I LOVE a note book, and you’ll find me either writing or sketching in one, or using my journalling bible for taking notes and drawing.

Have you tried a Faith Journal? This beautifully designed Bee Faith Journal; taken from the scripture, ‘Kind words are like honey— sweet to the soul and healthy for the body.’ (Proverbs 16:24)

It has guided space for daily gratitude, scripture reflection and prayer journalling to encourage time in the presence of God, and to strengthen your faith.

The only dependent is where i am, or where i’m going. The journalling bible is quite bulky to carry so I mainly do creative devotionals in this while at home, at a table. And carry a notebook for taking notes/journalling at church, or small group.

Your Journalling Resources

  1. Complete Guide to Bible Journalling: I started with fantastic book – I recommend the paperback, over the kindle addition as it’s full of stickers and perforated pages to help you get started expressing your Faith in your art!

Your Journalling Bible:

I have three (so far, ahem!)

Links (hover to click):

  1. I Am So Many Things : a wonderful friend gave me this journalling bible as a gift. It’s JOYFUL! Bright yellow and Illustrated by the Christian artist, Thea Muir who affirms our identity is in Christ alone.
  2. Mint Polka Dot (NIV): My first and favourite Journalling Bible. Wide margins and lots of space for art journalling.
  3. She Reads Truth (CSB): is truly wonderful. It mixes chapter synopses, devotionals, wide margins for journalling, illustrations, maps and notes.

Your Journalling Tools:

Highlighting verses:

  1. Highlighter Tabs: a highlight that you can move around and use as both a verse highlight and page highlight.

Psalm 91:4 – He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.

2. Watercolour Pencils: I’m coveting a set of Derwent Inktense, but i’m currently using a set with basic colours that are only around £4!

3. Glitter Pens: I’m ordering and will review some Glitter Pens from Papermania!

When it goes a bit wrong:

One learning curve for me was realising the difference between notebook paper and the paper in the journalling bible – you really have to watch for bleed through in your journalling bible.

All’s not lost with this black pen bleed through. I will cover this later with a washi tape or decoupage type design. Watch this space!

Journal Tips:

What will start to happen, as you begin to journal, is that you’ll find there’s a point when you want to journal somewhere where you’ve already taken notes, or created art. Here i’ve layered my notes:
